Qingdao pushing film and TV production

The Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis in the city of Qingdao, Shandong province, a film and TV base of the Wanda property and entertainment group, signed an investment deal with nine media companies from China and abroad, in the city’s West Coast New Area, on Oct 8, which calls for turning Qingdao into an Oriental Hollywood.

Some of the corporations involved are the Weinstein Co, Roadside Attractions, Cinetic Media and Inlook Media, who are expected to make more films at the Movie Metropolis, with financing coming from the city’s Huangdao district, according to David Glasser, COO of the Weinstein Company.

Wang Zhonglei, the president of the the Huayi Brothers Media Corp, a sort of Chinese Warner Bros, commented, “Qingdao Oriental Movie Metropolis will promote the development of film and TV production in Qingdao.”

To support the move, the Qingdao government and Wanda Group held a global summit on film and TV production, on Oct 8.
