The environmental protection bureau in Qingdao held a publicity campaign and art performance to celebrate this year's World Environment Day on May 6, according to Qingdao Daily.

More than 300 people participated in the event which this year emphasized a call for society as a whole to take more responsibility in preserving the environment and promoting green development. Among those who took part were employees from environment facilities, local residents, volunteers and representatives from private enterprises.

During the event, the authority set up a consultation booth and answered environmental questions raised by citizens. Volunteers also handed out brochures and reusable shopping bags to enhance people's consciousness of environment conservation.

In addition, residents and enterprises who had made contributions to the environment protection were awarded at the event.
