A special academic forum was held from Sept 20 to 21, celebrating the 10th anniversary of the Qingdao Institute of Bioenergy and Bioprocess Technology (QIBEBT) of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) in Laoshan District, Qingdao, East China's Shandong province.
The two-day forum included a celebration party, a high-profile academic forum, and an academic exchange and forum for youth scholars, which several experts and scholars from both home and abroad attended.
The forum discussed science and technology issues in the field of renewable energy, with researchers from QIBEBT.
The celebration party was held on the morning of Sept 20, attended by some 24 guests from the Qingdao government, the CAS, colleges and QIBEBT's cooperative enterprises.
Peng Hui, deputy director of QIBEBT, introduced the institute's development process at the celebration. He expressed his thanks for the support over the years from the provincial and municipal governments, from the partners from both home and abroad, and the institute's employees, researchers and experts.
Wang Xiulin, vice-chairman of the Qingdao political consultative conference, praised QIBEBT's contribution to local economic and social development over the past decade. He also expressed his high hopes for the future development of the institute.
The high-profile academic forum was held on the afternoon of Sept 20. Themed around renewable energy, green materials and biotechnology, two special academic reports were delivered by experts and professors from the University of Illinois, and Risun, a world leading energy and chemical company.
The academic exchange and forum for youth scholars was launched on Sept 21, with three young academics from the China Agricultural University, Shanghai Jiao Tong University and Dalian Institute of Chemical Physics of the CAS, all giving lectures on specific research results.
The QIBEBT was cofounded by the CAS, the provincial government of Shandong and the municipal government of Qingdao in 2006. It is one of China's primary national research institutions for renewable energy and green materials, focusing mainly on research and development of the resources, technologies, products and processes for bio-based energy and materials.
The institute is devoted to providing systematic and sustainable solutions to the nation's bioenergy needs by integrating science, technology, and engineering in the fields of industrial biology, green chemical technology, and process engineering.
