The Sanpai Yao Village is located in Sanpai Village, about 11 kilometers (7 miles) south of Liannan County, Qingyuan City. Yao Village is a vivacious scenic resort in which the history, culture, art, customs, architecture, costumes and folk entertainment of the Yao ethnic minority are fully displayed.
Nestled at the foot of the gorgeous Sanpai Mountain, the rows of houses in Yao Village rise with the slope. Often, the roofs of the houses in the front are level with the floors of the houses in the back. The houses are connected together by corridors and lanes, forming the typical layout of Yao Village.
Sauntering through the finely-arranged Yao folk houses and zigzag paths, one feels the simplicity of Yao Village, where a venerable lifestyle is led by all. Antique and unique stilt-houses, also known as pile dwellings, can be seen in the village. Bamboo pipes hanging in midair, resembling spider webs, are the water pipes used by the locals. A number of original breweries, tofu mills, oil mills and granaries still stand there. Antique bricks, tiles and buildings all display the age-old life style of the Yao people.
In this amazing village, tourists can visit the traditional Yao breweries and have a taste of the fragrant rice wine and the lighter wines which are unique to Yao Village. Learning to make wine and tofu are recommended to the tourists. There are also many workshops producing various local folk craftworks, including beautiful Yao ethnic costumes, brilliant embroideries, fine curios and local specialties.
Tourists in Yao Village have the chance to know the wedding and funeral customs of the natives. The passionate Yao people perform wonderful singing and dancing for their guests.
