Ma Jingyu, also named Xuanmo, was born in Xinzhou, Shanxi in January 1959. He graduated from the Art Department of Shanxi University in July 1982 with a Bachelor's degree in music. After graduation, he continued to work at the university and was successively appointed as editor of the Audio-visual Department and Deputy Director of a TV station. In April 1993, he went to Rikkyo University of Japan and studied pedagogy and TV teaching for two years. Since 1999, he has been in charge of overseas student programs in the Foreign Affairs Department of Shanxi University, and has been teaching Chinese culture, calligraphy, erhu, etc. in International College. Presently, he is a member of Shanxi Calligraphers Association, as well as an honorary professor in the Ziang Painting and Calligraphy Association. His research direction: teaching music and calligraphy
