Enrollment of Foreign Students in Shanxi University

III. Application procedures

1.Prerequisites

You must be non-Chinese citizen, in good health, a passport holder, above the age of 18, and you must be willing to abide by Chinese laws and Shanxi University regulations and you are expected to respect Chinese customs. Undergraduates are required to have a high school diploma and have passed the new HSK level 4. Master's are required to have a bachelor’s degree and to have passed the new HSK level 5. PhDs are required to have a master’s degree and to have passed the new HSK level 5.

2. Materials

a. Shanxi University Application Form for International Students. This can be downloaded at http://siee.sxu.edu.cn/ .

b. Graduation certificate and diploma, either original documents or certified copies in Chinese or English, and an official letter stating expected graduation date if that applies.

c. Official transcript of academic work up to the present, including courses and grades, either the original documents or certified copies, in Chinese or English.

d. Personal statement (800 words for the master’s program, 1500 words for the doctoral program, in Chinese.) an example of the format can be downloaded at http://siee.sxu.edu.cn/ .

e. Two recommendation letters. These should be from professors or persons with an academic title and at least one of them should have knowledge of your recent academic work. The letter must be the original documents, in Chinese or English. an example of the format can be downloaded at http://siee.sxu.edu.cn/.

f. Copy of your HSK results (for degree-granting programs).

g. Photocopy of your passport (ordinary type passport).

h. Resume in Chinese or English. The format can be downloaded at http://siee.sxu.edu.cn/.

i. Guardian’s certificate if required. The format can be downloaded at http://siee.sxu.edu.cn/. Application materials will not be returned.

3.Applying

a. Fill out an application form for Shanxi University international students. You can go to http://siee.sxu.edu.cn/ to download it.

b. Submit application materials and the application fee to the International Students Office.

c. The International Students Office will check the application materials for completeness.

d. The materials will be passed on to the appropriate department for double checking and, if necessary, the applicants need (degree-granting programs).

e. If necessary, international students will be asked to take a departmental examination (degree-granting programs).

f. The International Students Office will announce the names of successful candidates.

g. The International Students Office will send out a Letter of Admission and JW 202 form to successful applicants within a month.

4. Application deadline ( degree-granting programs)

Autumn semester: June 31

5. Registration

March and September. In registering, the following documents should be given to the International Students Office:

a. Certificate of Admission

b. Application Form (JW202)

c. Passport

d. Passport-size photos (8).
