The Kunming Library held a news briefing on July 4 to publicize its scheduled reading activity.
A series of activities will be initiated on July 9, including a classic reading qualification trial in the Kunming competition area, a 21-day family reading activity and a book display.
Zhao Jianjun, chief librarian, said as more and more people have dropped printed books and turned to online reading for convenience, the library officially opened its WeChat account and mobile library in April to meet people's demands.
The classic reading competition is now approaching its end. A qualification trial is to be held soon with 18 winners to emerge and represent Kunming at the final against three other cities in southwest China–Chengdu, Chongqing and Guiyang.
Over 4,900 families have participated in the 21-day family reading activity co-held by Kunming's 14 counties.
The book display activity will include lectures by local and national experts. The activity will also involve a book sale exhibition to be held by three local book stores providing books at favorable prices.
