Kunming’s landscaping bureau said that the pavilion will restrict the daily visitor numbers to 1,440, of whom only 30 will be admitted every 10 minutes.

A hearing to announce the decision will be held sometime between Nov 8 and 21. Kunming residents may attend if interested.

The building has now become a hot scenic spot noted not only for its traditional Chinese architectural style but also for its annual lotus festival, when thousands of lotuses dance to the wind on the water.

This year’s lotus festival even invited a cultural fair from Chiengmai, Thailand’s second largest city, well-known for its “beauty and rose” theme, and attracted much larger visitors than in previous years. [Photo/yunnan.cn]

Working personnel on site will monitor the number carefully. A screen on the ticket windows will show the number of people still allowed to enter the building.

Information about any temporary closure of the building for maintenance or other purposes will be displayed on the screen a week ahead.
