China is going in the right direction

It is a matter of producing quality and effective marketing. It will take years but it will come if China is serious about it. Decades ago, people in the world associated "made in Japan" as poor quality but now it symbolizes better quality than products made in the US.

The main reason for Western companies coming to China is the relatively low cost of manual labor, not the quality those companies deliver. In fact many Western firms have to send quality teams to China to enforce Western quality standards. Even then it is not guaranteed Chinese suppliers are able to fulfill the quality requirements. "Made in China" is still a sign for cheap products.

Haha

Cheap doesn't mean bad

China produces a lot of high-quality goods, however, many Chinese do not recognize this and are obsessed with Western brands and have bought into the Western hype.

Of course, much of this hype is due to the vast amount of advertising spent by these companies. These Western companies would move their production facilities in a heartbeat if the quality of goods produced was inferior.

So why do you suppose a foreign company chooses China over Mexico? Quality, quality and quality. It is high time that the Chinese, especially the young, recognize this about their own country.
