A 41-year-old Beijing man has been executed for the murder and dismemberment of his ex-wife.
Li Jia, the press officer with No 1 Intermediate Court, told METRO on Wednesday that Ren Liwen had been working for a property company at the time of the killing in March 2008.
Li said Ren, who had a senior school education from a Beijing institution, had been feuding with his ex-wife, surnamed Liu, over the division of their property following their divorce.
Under the terms of their divorce agreement, the couple's home, which was in the Yangzhuang North area, Shijingshan district, and which was worth 600,000 yuan, belonged to Liu.
Li said Ren got into a dispute with Liu and strangled her in the home.
Before the execution, Ren told reporters he had initially agreed to give all his property to Liu during their divorce but regretted the decision after he met his new girlfriend.
"I was inhuman to kill my previous wife on a sudden impulse. I feel full of shame when I see our child," he said before he was executed.
The court spokesperson said Ren mutilated Liu's body and wrapped parts in eight bags that he stored beneath the washbasin at the home.
Four days later, when the smell became unbearable, he sorted through the bags and took out his ex-wife's head, boiling it before putting the head and her hair into two small black bags, Li said.
The court heard Ren removed his ex-wife's internal organs and flushed them down the toilet.
A month later, he sold the house for 630,000 yuan and bought a new home in Mentougou district, which was registered in the name of Jiao Wanhua, his girlfriend, Li said.
Movers who came to help Ren shift his property to the new home complained about the smell and Ren told them it was fertilizer, said Li. He added that the workers said the bags were heavy and tightly sealed and Ren told them "be careful, don't break them".
After moving to the new house, Ren hid the remains under a patio.
He was convicted of intentional homicide and, in addition to his death sentence, had all his property confiscated at City No 1 Intermediate Court.
Two other men were executed this week for robbing and killing nine unlicensed taxi drivers during a seven-year crime spree that started in 1999. The killings took place in Shunyi and Chaoyang districts.
The men were sentenced by the City No 2 Intermediate Court. Gao Zhihai, the press officer with the court, told METRO the men, Li Guiyong and Si Hailong, were migrant workers.
Gao said, from 1999 to 2006, Li and Si robbed and killed nine unlicensed taxi drivers. Li participated in all nine cases and stole a total of 530,000 yuan. Si participated in six of the killings.
"The two suspects used violence to rob others' of their property, resulting in the deaths of nine victims and causing serious social impacts, bringing great harm to society," Gao said.
In addition to their death sentences, they were deprived of political rights and all of their property was confiscated by the court, Gao said.
