By This week may be a little quiet, but there’s still some great stuff going on. For me, Dos Kolegas is the venue to be at on Saturday night. It’s free, and the bands are great. I'm not on record as the biggest Nucleus fan, but I’m open to them winning me over after not having seen them perform in a very long time. According to many people I know, they’re a shining example of hard rock in this city. Added to the fact, I love Wu and The Side-Effects, and this is their last performance with yet another member – drummer Mo is heading back to Germany. Skarving is always a fun, ska-soaked time, and I have never seen The Rudeness, but it will be good to see another example of ska in this city.

When: 10 pm, Saturday Aug 20
Where: Dos Kolegas
Lineup: Nucleus, Wu and The Side Effects, Skarving, The Rudeness
How much: Free

Runners up this week are the last two semifinal shows of Tiger Translate (the big finale is next weekend), which sees Perdel headline Mako Livehouse on Friday (60-70 yuan) and Relector play at Mao Livehouse on Saturday (60-70 yuan). Also on Friday, Steely Heart and The Lone are doing an unplugged set at Hot Cat Club (30 yuan) in Fangjia Hutong, while on Saturday the venue is turned over to funk rockers Not There for their “Back to School for Adults” night (free).
