President, king view cultural relics excavated in Saudi Arabia

Ancient stone tablets and pottery were a cultural highlight on Thursday for Saudi Arabian King Salman bin Abdulaziz al-Saud during his visit to Beijing.

After having talks at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing, President Xi Jinping and the Saudi king visited the National Museum of China to view an exhibition of cultural relics that were excavated in Saudi Arabia.

The exhibition, which opened in December, has been seen by more than 40,000 visitors over the past three months.

While attending the closing ceremony of the show with the king, Xi said the exhibition showcases the wisdom of the Saudi Arabian people and "left a great impression on me".

Saudi Arabia was on the route of the ancient Silk Road and has hosted greatly dynamic cultural exchanges and built a bridge between the East and the West, Xi said.

The king said the exhibition deepened the good bilateral relationship and was helpful for the two countries to make greater contributions to the development of human civilization.

He also said Saudi Arabia is willing to work with China to promote trade exchanges and interactions of various countries and cultures by joining the building of the Silk Road Economic Belt and 21st Century Maritime Silk Road.
