Ministry briefing to focus on fall in nonfinancial ODI

The Ministry of Commerce will hold its weekly media briefing in Beijing on Thursday. Attention will focus on the country's nonfinancial outbound direct investment in the first two months of this year, released last week. ODI slid by 53 percent year-on-year to 92.42 billion yuan ($13.43 billion). The central government has been stepping up controls over ODI since late last year amid concerns of a depreciating yuan as the country's foreign exchange reserves fell sharply.

Special report to look at major jewelry center

The village of Shuibei in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, is a major hub for jewelry business. It has more than 2,000 enterprises and 20 trading centers, generating a big portion of China's jewelry trade. Two years ago, the village expanded the trade online in collaboration with e-commerce giant Alibaba Holdings. In the coming days, China Daily will publish a special report on the village's booming trade.

Home-sharing company to outline new strategy

China's largest online lodging marketplace, tujia.com, will announce its strategy for the year in Beijing on Thursday. The company is expected to sign a cooperative agreement with Alibaba's Sesame Credit. It also plans to turn ancient residences in Yixian county, Anhui province, into unique vacation homes.

Beijing education fair attracts 300 schools

Three hundred universities from more than 20 countries will participate in the China International Education Exhibition Tour, opening in Beijing on Saturday. The two-day event aims to foster exchange and cooperation between higher education institutions and a broad spectrum of stakeholders in the field of education. The fair is one of the largest education events in China. It has been organized by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange, affiliated with the Ministry of Education. The exhibition has been held in more than 20 Chinese cities since 1999.
