Film: Moonlight to hit the big screen in China

The winner of the 2017 Academy Awards for Best Picture Moonlight is expected to hit the big screen in China, according to Mtime.com. The film presents three stages in the life of the main character. It explores the difficulties he faces with his sexuality and identity, including the physical and emotional abuse he receives as a result of it. The film was released in the US on Oct 21, and has grossed $55 million worldwide.

Biz: Greater Bay Area new highlight in China's economy

Industrial experts and officials believe that the "Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area" will enhance the upgraded economy and drive economic development in southern China. According to this year's annual Government Work Report, China will draw up a plan for the development of a city cluster in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, highlight the distinctive strengths of Hong Kong and Macao, and elevate their positions and roles in the country's economic development and opening up.

Society: Beijing to open first driverless subway line

Beijing will open its first subway line with self-driving trains this year, local authorities said on Friday. The line is the first fully domestically developed automated subway line on the Chinese mainland, said a spokesperson with the Beijing Municipal Commission of Housing and Urban-Rural Development. The Line will improve convenience of transportation for residents living in the city's southwestern suburb of Fangshan, the spokesperson said.

Art: Shanghai shows exquisite work and crafts by folk artists

An arts and crafts competition was held in Shanghai on Saturday in which more than 1,500 pieces were displayed. The event, for the top 100 folk artists, displayed their works which are being exhibited at the Shanghai Baoshan International Folk Arts Exposition. Exquisite crafts such as paper-cuts, bamboo weaving, wheat-straw patchwork, dough figurines and hairline engravings are a visual feast for visitors.
