IOC panel to brief media on Beijing 2022 Winter Games

The International Olympic Committee's coordination commission for the Beijing 2022 Winter Games will hold a media briefing in the capital on Tuesday. The concept of the Games is closely aligned with the long-term development goals for the city and neighboring Hebei province. The Games, which will take advantage of a planned high-speed rail link between Beijing and the mountains, are designed to expand participation in winter sports and create a new "Sport, Culture and Tourism Belt" in North China.

Nationwide blood donations up, but more is needed

Wednesday is World Blood Donor Day. This year's campaign will focus on blood donations in emergencies. The slogan is "Give blood. Give now. Give often." China recorded 14 million blood donations last year, up by 6.1 percent from the previous year, according to the National Health and Family Planning Commission. By the end of last year, there were 1,262 blood donation centers built.

Bureau to release economic data for five months

The National Bureau of Statistics will hold a media briefing in Beijing on Wednesday on the country's economic performance in the past five months. China saw its GDP rise by 6.9 percent year-on-year to hit 18 trillion yuan ($2.6 trillion) in the first quarter. This year's Government Work Report has set an annual growth target of 6.5 percent.

Reports to look at Hong Kong's dramatic progress

Twenty years after its establishment as a special administrative region, Hong Kong has seen tremendous growth. On July 1, 1997, the United Kingdom transferred the sovereignty of Hong Kong to China.
