Fei Shou, meaning "fast hands", believes he is destined to become a djembe player. He has not been to Africa yet, but has mastered the African drum and its rhythms. He now runs a shop in Shenzhen, Guangdong province, selling and restoring djembes.
Biz: ICBC retains position as the world's largest bank
Industrial and Commercial Bank of China remains the world's largest bank, according to the latest ranking released by The Banker magazine. ICBC has $281 billion in tier one capital, the key measure for the rankings, followed by China Construction Bank and JP Morgan. It's the fifth year in a row that ICBC has come in first in the Top 1000 World Banks after it became the first Chinese bank to reach the top spot in 2013.
Culture: Journey to the West with traditional instruments
More than 100 traditional Chinese instruments have been employed in a new play. Xuanzang's Pilgrimage, which premiered at the Tianqiao Performing Arts Center in Beijing on Friday, combines folk music of the Han people with Uygur, Kazak, Tajik and Indian musical influences to reveal the diverse cultures along the ancient Silk Road. It's based on the classic Chinese novel Journey to the West, telling the story of Tang Dynasty (618-907) monk Xuanzang's pilgrimage to the West - what is now known as Central Asia and India - to obtain sacred Buddhist texts. The play runs until Tuesday.

For centuries, the four great inventions of ancient China - the compass, gunpowder, paper and printing - have been celebrated as technologies that have made significant contributions to civilization. In a video that went viral online recently, foreign students in China have redefined the "four great inventions" of the modern age: mobile payment, bike-sharing services, e-commerce and high-speed trains.
Art: 'Embarrassing moments' go on show in the capital
Painter Ma Mingze, 34, captures in her works the confusing and embarrassing moments of life. Her solo exhibition, Freeze a Moment, at Parkview Green Art in the 798 art district, displays dozens of recent works. In her paintings, Ma questions the role of women in today's society, people's feeling of loss in a digital age and anxieties they find difficult to release in a time of little privacy. The show runs until Aug 20.
Buzzword: Hat tip
The phrase hat tip refers to an oval or circular piece of material used to line the crown of a hat. A new meaning of the phrase derived from the verb tip has now been added, denoting the action of tipping or doffing one's hat in greeting or acknowledgment and hence, figuratively, an expression of gratitude or admiration.
