All systems go in Ordos as meeting focuses on AI game

The first World AI Go Open will kick off in Ordos, Inner Mongolia autonomous region, on Wednesday, attracting dozens of research teams from home and abroad. The event is organized by the International Go Federation and the Chinese Go Association. In May, AlphaGo, an artificial intelligence program developed by Google's DeepMind team, beat China's top Go player Ke Jie in Wuzhen, Zhejiang province.

Aviation briefing in Beijing to discuss developments

The Civil Aviation Administration will hold a media briefing in Beijing on Tuesday to introduce the latest development since a guideline for the aviation industry was released by the State Council, China's Cabinet, in May last year. The guideline aims to build a friendly environment for general aviation investors and eventually create a market worth more than 1 trillion yuan ($150 billion) by 2020.

Robot technology set to steal the show in Shandong

A national robot competition will be held in Rizhao, Shandong province, on Wednesday and Thursday. Self-made, autonomous, and mobile robots will compete in different competitions including puck collecting and freestyle movement. China has been the world's biggest producer of industrial robots for three consecutive years, accounting for 25 percent of global production.

Fishing season resumes after ban to protect stocks

The fishing season in the South China Sea will start on Wednesday. An annual fishing ban has been introduced to protect fish stocks and the environment. The minimum duration of the fishing off-season in the country usually lasts three months every year.
