Comment on "91 % feel burden of high college tuition" (China Daily, Sept 16)
I was surprised to read that the rising cost of college tuition is not only an issue in the United States. I worked as a food server in a local restaurant in the US recently. Many of my coworkers were recent college graduates who could not find work that suited their degrees and were struggling to pay off their student loans.
As an undergraduate this unsettling reality is doing little to motivate me, or my peers. My generation grew up believing that working hard for good grades in a good college is the key to success. Now those opportunities no longer exist thanks to the greed and corruption of a mismanaged system that has perpetuated the very notion of college breeding success.
College students have always been viewed as people equipped with innovation and intelligence. It will be a big shame if college graduates get so few opportunities to rise to their full potential.
