Comment on "Filial piety does not need a code" (China Daily, Aug 31)
The virtues of filial piety should be taught to children from a young age. There is a traditional Chinese book, Dizigui, which teaches filial piety to children.
The book also teaches young students to consider situational factors and the practicability of a conduct.
Following the official code of conduct word for word could create more friction than happiness between parents and children. Besides, the feeling of piety should come naturally to a person.
