People's dream is nation's dream
The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is the dream of the Chinese people, and China must rely on the people and unite their strength as an invincible force to realize the dream, says an article in People's Daily. Excerpts:
National rejuvenation is the dream of the nation as well as of every member of society. The Chinese saying, if a river has enough water the streams will not run dry, best describes the correlation between individual well-being and national interests. Individuals' destiny is tied to that of the nation, and only if the future of a country is secure can its people have a secure future.
The pursuit of national strength and prosperity, in fact, is the quest for the all-round development of the people. Rising from the rubble, China has made unswerving efforts to lift its people out of poverty. After decades of reform and opening-up, accompanied by modernization, the living standard of the Chinese people on the whole has reached a moderately well-off level, and the government has set up a basic social insurance network covering 1.3 billion people.
The Chinese Dream represents people's common wishes for an even better life, secured with sound education, ample job opportunities, medical and old-age care, affordable housing and sustainable environment. All members of society have the right to enjoy the fruits of the country's economic development and, at the same time, are obliged to contribute their share of strength to realize national rejuvenation.
History tells us that the strength of the people should never be underestimated. The victory in the Huaihai Campaign, a determining battle in the War of Liberation (1946-49), came about because of farmers, who used hundreds of thousands of trolleys and wheelbarrows to deliver food and weapons to the People's Liberation Army on the front line. And the country's urbanization drive owes its success to the invaluable contribution of hundreds of millions of migrant workers.
The collective strength of the people is a great force. It can help realize the Chinese Dream. China must rely on the people, maximize their development and inspire them to work persistently toward making the Chinese Dream a reality, so that national rejuvenation can be achieved in tandem with the realization of the dreams of every individual.
