Porcospino (Denmark)
I always leave my seat when an elderly person gets on the bus and there are no others available. I would do the same thing if it was a long journey. I think it is a way of being polite and showing consideration, and many elderly persons are thankful or happy when they get a seat in a crowded bus, but not all. I once gave up my seat for an elderly woman and she was insulted, asking me: "Do I really look that old?" I think she was around 80, and she had trouble standing, but she still refused the seat. The same thing has happened to me a few other times, but most of the people have been happy to get a seat.
