Suzhou, city of gardens

Guanyunfeng, a rare stone(center of above photo) from Taihu Lake is seen in the Liuyuan or Lingering Garden in Suzhou. The garden was built in 1593 during the Ming Dynasty(1368-1644) covering 23,300 square meters. It is a classical Chinese private garden with characteristics of the Qing Dynasty(1644-1911). The Taihu Lake stones were sought after in the ancient times for their thinness, wrinkles, holes and connection knots. [Photo by Ling Yifeng]
