For millions of Chinese studying English, Li Yang was like a godfather figure, with his admirable English proficiency and exhilarating self-confidence. But he has been in the shadow of domestic violence against his American wife Kim Lee since 2011. In February 2013, the couple’s high-profile divorce ended with Li's extensive property portfolio being forfeited as compensation.
