Art Code, a French tile brand, opened its first Chinese flagship store in kunshan, Jiangsu province on March 31.

"China is a huge potential market which has much room for French tiles although it already has many early tile competitors," said Chen Zhengsheng, marketing general manager of the Xinyi Ceramics (China) Co Ltd.

Xinyi, a subsidiary of the Champion Building Material Group, will be an agent for the sales of Art Code tiles.

He said Art Code, which made a debut at the Build Expo which will close on April 1, shows a firm confidence to compete with its competitors on the Chinese market.

"China has formed a high-end decoration market which calls for deluxe tiles," Chen said.

Local building materials insiders said China consumes tiles valued at more than 15 billion yuan annually, providing a huge space for Art Code.

Xinyi has joined hands with 25 sales agencies as part of its nationwide network to sell the French tile, he said.

The general manager said sales of Art Code tiles are expected to reach 180 million yuan this year, accounting for 10 per cent of the group sales.

Sales will be reached 360 million yuan next year and 500 million yuan in 2012 as its agencies come to 55, Chen said.
