Eleven Hong Kong members of the Yunnan Youth Federation visited the Chuxiong Yi Nationality Autonomous Prefecture of the Yunnan Province in April 9th to 11th and attended the Fourth Standing Committee (Extended) Session of the Ninth Committee of the Federation. The members also joined the fundraising activity organized by the Federation and donated $52,000 for the constructions of "Caring Reservoirs" for the Hope Schools in the province.

Chuxiong is one of the prefectures that is hard-hit by the continuous drought. Water supply remains stringent at the moment. However, through the generous donations the Yunnan Youth Federation had raised a fund of more than one million. It is hopeful that the fund can instantly help alleviate the hardship of the drought victims.

Thanks to the spirited support from the university student organizations in Hong Kong, the first stage of "Tears for Yunnan" campaign has successfully attracted wide participation from the students and raised more than $16,000 by April 8th. The sum has been donated for the construction of "Caring Reservoirs" for the Hope Schools in Yunnan. The fundraising campaign is still continuing. A charity card game and a charity sale in Hong Kong's universities are hosted on April 10th and 18th. Ms. Rao Nan Hu, Honorary Chairperson of the Yunnan Youth Federation, and Mr. Lu Ping, Chairman of the Yunnan Youth Federation, expressed their appreciation of the caring of the Hong Kong university students and the public. Mr. Yang Hong Wei, Governor of the Chuxiong Yi Nationality Autonomous Prefecture, talked to the Hong Kong members of the Yunnan Youth Federation after the fundraising activity on April 10th. He thanked the Hong Kong people for their care and donations and wish that Hong Kong people will continue to support the drought relief measures in Chuxiong.

Chen Dong Hai, Vice Chairman (Hong Kong) of the Yunnan Youth Federation, said: "We are very grateful for the wholehearted support from the Future Star Federation of Student and the enthusiastic donation from the university students in Hong Kong. The 'Tears for Yunnan' campaign is making progress. We had expressed to our fellows in Yunnan how much Hong Kong people care about them. We cannot prevent natural disasters. But we can surely extend our helping hands and embrace our brothers in need. The drought has not passed. And continual effort is important to help the victims to rehabilitate. We the Hong Kong members of the Yunnan Youth Federation will lead by example."
