Cross-straits Fair for Economy and Trade kicks off in Fuzhou

The 12th Cross-straits Fair for Economy and Trade and the 7th Commodities Fair Fujian China kicked off on May 18th.
The fairs won the sponsor of China Council for the Promotion of International Trade, Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, General Administration of Customs, General Administration of Quality Supervision and Fujian Provincial Government and attracted more than ten thousand businessmen from home and abroad.
The fairs were held in Fujian Strait International Conference & Exhibition Center, the biggest exhibition center in China and the second biggest one in Asia. The unprecedented scale of exhibition definitely upgrades the standard of the fairs and showcases Fujian municipal government’s determination to extend economic and trade exchanges between Chinese mainland and Taiwan as well as between China and other parts of the world.
At ten o’clock in the morning, former Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, Mr Huang Hanbin declared the opening of the fairs. The exhibition events will last for five days, from May 18th to 22nd.
Themed with “cross-strait communication and mutual benefit”, the 12th Cross-straits Fair for Economy and Trade and the 7th Commodities Fair Fujian China highlight economic and trade elements through demonstrating the economic development and achievements in the two sides of the Taiwan Straits, exhibiting the vivid landscapes of cities and counties of Taiwan through audio-video facilities and promoting special industries and products from Taiwan.
Modern agricultural project matching conference, summit forum on financing and investment and exhibition of creative industry will also be carried out during the fairs. The organizers work hard to provide a first-class pageant “accelerating the development of Fujian, connecting people of Fujian and Taiwan and opening up to the world”.
The 12th Cross-straits Fair for Economy and Trade is held at a critical moment. One year ago, State Council issued Opinions on Supporting Fujian Province to Accelerate the Construction of Western Taiwan Straits Economic Zone.
During the 2010 Spring Festival, President Hu Jintao visited Fujian and made an important speech on the development of Fujian Province. Support and care from the central authority has greatly encouraged Fujian government and people to undertake the historical mission of strengthening cross-strait cooperation and communication.
Under this favorable occasion, Cross-straits Fair for Economy and Trade has become an excellent platform for cross-strait economic and trade exchanges and a significant window for implementing initial and experimental policies about economic and trade with Taiwan. During this great event, the authority is calling for Fujian to go ahead in policies and practices about cross-strait economy and trade.
On the first day of the fair, more than 1.1 billion dollars of foreign investment has been confirmed for 55 projects involving IT, automobile, telecommunication, tourism, creative animation, construction, architectural designing, forestry, fishing and other industries.
According to preliminary estimation, foreign invested projects in the 12th Cross-straits Fair for Economy and Trade will register an increase of 29.79% over the previous year, with a total of 2.344 billion dollars of foreign capital. About 258 projects will be signed with domestic investment, utilizing a total of 56.496 billion yuan. Business organizations from Taiwan will contribute 843 million dollars and participate in 55 projects.
During the 12th Cross-straits Fair for Economy and Trade and the 7th Commodities Fair Fujian China, as many as ten exhibition halls are opening for demonstration, including exhibition halls for Taiwan, manufactory industry, brand export products, Asian fashionable products, Fujian commodities for global purchasing, city audio-video show, investment and trade consulting, automobile show, creative industry and so on. Each exhibition booth and unit is delicately arranged and decorated, reflecting the warm welcome and eager desire of the host organization.
