Located in the northeast of Pingnan County, Fujian Province, Yuanyang (literally "Mandarin Duck") Creek lies on the border of Pingnan, Zhouning and Zhenghe counties. It is 30km from the county seat of Pingnan and is about 1000m above sea level.
With annual average temperatures of 15 degree centigrade, the creek is seldom frozen even in winter. Meandering through the mountains and offset by cliffs, luxuriant forests, mountain flowers and a tranquil environment, the creek is renowned as a paradise for mandarin ducks and macaques.
