Hongqiao Airport welcomes Spring Festival rush

The annual travel rush has hit Hongqiao Airport. From Jan 16 to 20, Hongqiao Airport saw 527,400 inbound and outbound passengers, with total flights reaching 3,563, increases of 22.97 percent and 11.34 percent, respectively, compared to the same period of last year.

On the day of Jan 16, the number of passengers has reached 111,300 that hits the record, while, It is estimated that passenger flow may reach 60,000 on a single day during the Spring Festival period.

Hongqiao Airport is providing multiple services for passengers to make their travels more comfortable.

It launched a free luggage storage service allowing passengers to store their luggage for free for up to 30 days.

Multiple measures have also been taken to speed up security checks. The airport is providing disposable socks, baby chairs and trolleys. Also, 30 volunteers have been assigned around the security gate area.

New technology is also being applied during the busy time. Terminal 2 has a new taxi information screen to provide distance and fee information.

Special arrangement agreements have also been signed between the airport and taxi companies to guarantee sufficient taxi supply during the busy period, thus avoiding long waiting queues.

Also, a night train was recently opened, running from Terminal 2 to People's Square in downtown Shanghai. The special line opens at 10:30 pm daily and has a ticket price of 10 yuan ($1.65).
