"What I’ve done is a tiny effort. I hope more people get to know the "shidu" families, a Chinese term coined to describe aged parents who have lost their only child, and help them walk out of the shadow to find happiness," said Jin Wei, who has supported an elderly mother to cure her only sick daughter from 2001 to 2006, and kept extending his care to the "shidu" mother ever since. In 2012, he donated 1 million yuan to establish the Qizhi Angel Foundation in Beijing and continue to help more "shidu" mothers in China.

"We just want to do something good, nothing else," said Cai Bipei, whose family was honored for keeping take care of their lonely disabled neighbor Liu Yuyou since 1983.

When Liu’s parents passed away, it was Cai’s father who took care of the orphan and asked a cobbler to teach him some skills for living.

When Cai moved to Shanghai to look after his grandson, his son-in-law Gao Chao continued to take care of Liu for 11 years.
