99 million passengers travel through two Shanghai Airports in 2015
A total of whopping 99 million passengers traveled through Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) and Hongqiao International Airport (SHA) in 2015, according to reports from Shanghai Airport Authority.
Also, with the arrival of 2016 New Year, Shanghai Airport Authority witnessed the 16th consecutive safe year and the 28th for Shanghai Hongqiao International Airport since the civil aviation structural reform in 1988.
In the past year, Shanghai Airports have maintained a steady growth in passenger throughput, aircraft movement and cargo traffic. According to statistics, a total of 99 million passengers traveled through PVG and SHA, making the city the busiest among Chinese airports.
The two airports handled a combined 3.7 million tonnes of cargo and mail and 700,000 aircraft movements in the past 12 months, hitting new records in the history.
While officials of the PVG said that it celebrated its 30 million international passenger throughput at the end of 2015, marking a new milestone for the airport in traffic performance. In 2014, the airport served 60.08 million people and 450,000 aircraft movements totally.
Besides, PVG has started the construction of the world's largest satellite airport terminal that can handle 38 million passengers annually when it would be completed in 2019.
Notably, air traffic demand will continue to grow in the coming years. Shanghai airports are expected to handle more than 110 to 120 million passengers annually by 2020, making it the third place in the world.
