BRASILIA -- The goalkeeper of the Palmeiras soccer team, Marcos, passed his medical test on Monday and proved to be fit for the new season with the club.

"Today, Marcos had an x-ray as a routine part of the exam. Rames Mattar Junior presided over the exams and he was also the orthopedist who took care of the player in his last injury," stated the team doctor of Palmeiras, Otavio Vilhena.

"Everything is fine and he is 100% ready to play again."

The team has already begun their preseason training in the city of Sao Paulo in preparation for the statewide tournament.

"He is still working on strengthening his forearm, so he is unable to perform some specific exercises in the preseason. Next week he should be fine to participate in the rest of the team," added Vilhena.

According to the team's head coach, Vanderlei Luxemburgo, should Marcos fully recuperate from his injury, he will be the starting goalie for the team.

"Marcos is very important to Brazilian soccer and I want him to return to be one of our most important players," said Luxemburgo.
