S Korea sets new 5,000m short track relay record

SHANGHAI - South Korea set a new world record of the men's 5000-meter relay in preliminary round on the opening day of the short track speedskating World Cup here on Friday.
The South Korean team, consisting Noh Jinkyu, Kwak Yoon-Gy, Sin Da-Woon and Lee Ho-Suk, bursted out at the very beginning to beat other contenders with a time of six minutes and 35.884 seconds.
It lowered the mark of 6:37.877 set by Britain on February 20 in Dresden of Germany.
"It is amazing that the South Korean team had such a excellent performance from the very beginning. They broke the world record in the first day of the event," commented Li Yan, coach of the China's team.
The Chinese team also entered the men's 5000m relay final of the three-day event by finishing the second with 6:48.841, followed by Canada with 6:53.491.
