Andriy Shevchenko, who was named the best European player in 2004, began his career with Dynamo Kiev, making his debut in 1994.
Shevchenko led the Ukraine team as captain to the quarterfinals in their first ever FIFA World Cup appearance in 2006.
He scored in Ukraine's first ever World Cup winning game to defeat Saudi Arabia.
But Ukraine was beaten 3–0 by eventual champion Italy at the quarterfinal stage.
