The "Beautiful Countryside" project at Liangjiadun was created by the Zhejiang University Urban-Rural Planning & Design Institute. The renovation was designed to keep the traditional elements of the countryside, while, at the same time, making the living environment cleaner. It was also created to develop rural tourism, such as featuring farming experiences.
Since 2006, residents of the Changchun village have been cleaning the river to recover its image as a "river that can swim" in villagers' memory.
