An advertisement at a railway asking young men to donate sperms drew much attention and some shy smiles, in Taiyuan, Shanxi province, on Wednesday, chinanews.com reported.

The campaign was launched by Shanxi Human Sperm Bank to ease the sperm donor shortage.

UEFA Champions League became one of the hottest topics on Sina Weibo, a popular social networking site in China, on Thursday morning, hours after two remarkable matches sent Atletico Madrid and Bayern Munich to join Real Madrid and Chelsea in the semi-finals.

According to the latest figures based on an ongoing online poll on Weibo, 493 users support the defending champion Bayern Munich, believing that it will win the finals this year, while 131 are backing the other three teams.

$3.7m painting 'thrown with trash'

A painting that was sold for HK$28.8 million ($3.7 million) on Monday at Poly Auction in Hong Kong has gone missing, with police hinting that cleaners working at the auction house may have inadvertently thrown the artwork out, Jiangsu-based Modern Express reported.

The painting, "Snowy Mountain", which was created by Chinese American artist Cui Ruzhuo in 2012, is 1.79 meters wide and 3.81 meters long. If the investigators are able to confirm that the cleaners threw the painting out with other trash, then the cleaning company will probably have to cover a major part of the insurance.

Half-naked 'molester' caught on train

A half-naked man onboard a subway train was handed to police by other commuters after he allegedly tried to hold a woman in his arm during the morning rush hour on Wednesday, Beijing Times reported.

A witness claims the man put off his shirt after he boarded the train carriage. Other passengers caught him after a woman cried for help. An investigation is underway.

Anchorman taken off-air

A Hubei TV news anchorman who railed on live TV against officials of a county for indulging in extravagance was pulled up and replaced during Wednesday night's program.

While some Internet users backed the journalist for going after the officials, others called it a publicity stunt.

Anchorman Cui Jianbin claimed that officials in Fangxian county in Shiyan city of Hubei province shelled out 400 million yuan ($64.5 million) to construct their official building, which is spread over 77,757 square meters, 50 percent more than allowed under Hubei provincial government's regulations.

300 dressed as police officers attack workers

More than 70 migrant workers were injured by about 300 people wearing police uniforms at a construction site in Lanzhou on Monday, jcrb.com reported. The attack happened at 5 am at Lanzhou Chuangyi Guoji shopping mall, when 300 people armed with sticks and other items broke into the site, destroying equipment and injuring workers. Police are investigating the assault.

Changsha officer fired for sexual misconduct

An chengguan officer at the urban management bureau in Changsha was dismissed on Tuesday for sleeping with a woman who wanted to keep a billboard promoting her hotel, xinhuanet.com reported. The woman's boyfriend said that he caught the officer, surnamed Long, in the hotel naked with his girlfriend. The woman, who runs the hotel, confessed she did so to save the billboard.

Depressed parrot takes drastic action

A macaw at a zoo in Wuxi has pulled out all of its feathers after being neglected by visitors, Yangtze Evening News reported on Tuesday. The macaw, which is about 8 years old, likes visitors and approaches them when they come near its cage. However, the bird started pulling out its feathers last year when it felt neglected by visitors, zookeepers were quoted as saying in the report.
