Corrupt official has nose for inventions

A former official convicted of corruption has received 11 patents in the past six years of his jail term. In fact, a disposable nose cover he designed for PM2.5 protection has started mass production and will soon be available for purchase, the Zhejiang-based Xiandai Jinbao News reported Thursday.

Liang Jianxing,56, former head and party director at the Fenghua City Health Bureau in East China's Zhejiang province, was sentenced to eight years in jail for taking 140,000 yuan ($22,950) in bribes in 2008.

Liang researched the medical industry using books in jail. The nose cover, which uses Chinese herbs, is among other inventions including an eye massager and a device to help lift eyelids while using eye drops.
