Father sparks computer games debate

A father in Changzhou city of Jiangsu province caused an online furor when he posted that he has been playing computer games with his son, a sixth grader in primary school, for five years, and believes playing the games fosters creativity and intelligence, reported Xiandai Kuaibao (Modern Express), a Nanjing-based daily.

His remarks caused heated debate as parents worry adolescents, particularly male adolescents, seem especially prone to video game addiction. The father, surnamed Zhuo, said he controls the time his son spends on games, which he says cultivates the boy’s self-control and time management skills. He said his son’s grades have improved since grade one and playing the games was not a distraction.
