Dogfights spice up the Spring Festival

Dogfights are uncommon but not unheard of. On Feb 22, a dogfight was held in Sanjiao village, Jishan county, Yuncheng city in Shanxi province.

The owner of the participating dogs received a pack of cigarettes and a cup.

The fighting performance drew harsh criticism from Chinese web users.

Yuhuo Mudan said on China's twitter-like website Sina Weibo that "the lives of dogs are put at risk only to amuse the viewers. The fighting is so barbarous and it definitely should be banned. Hopefully the Animal Protection Law can be promulgated as soon as possible. "

Sniper 51837 said, "I think any animal fighting held for entertainment is unethical. The government should act on it."
