Burglar caught napping
We've reported before on strange stories about burglars who kiss to celebrate their theft, or a thief with hepatitis B cleaning up the bowl he used, but we haven't heard of a burglar who got caught napping in the house he broke into – until now.
A burglar was caught sleeping in a bed when the house owner woke him up in Ningbo, East China's Zhejiang province, jinbaonet.com reported on Thursday. The thief stole nothing, and apparently just needed a nap.
The burglar, surnamed Liu, broke into the residence at night after the owner left. However, he found nothing valuable in the house – just a neat, clean bed perfect for a snooze.
Liu later confessed to the police that he planned to leave in the morning, and didn't expect to be woken up when the house owner returned in the afternoon.
"I am not a diligent guy, neither at school nor at work, but I want to live a comfortable life. My fondness for sleeping cost me my previous job, which required frequent shift work, and now I am caught falling asleep…Given another chance, I would be more hardworking."
Liu was sentenced to five month's detention and fined 1,000 yuan ($161) by the local court.
