A woman and her grandson got trapped in the elevator of their residence building for nine hours only living on the vegetables they had just shopped for lunch in Guangdong province

The woman, surnamed Wang, 72, took her 10-month-old grandson to buy groceries and locked her four-year-old granddaughter home early in the morning. But the girl did not get anything to eat until late at night as her grandma and brother were stuck between first floor and basement in the five-storey building.

Wang said the elevator plummeted to the ground even before she could press the number of her floor. She fell down with the boy on her back and woke up after a short black-out, only to find the elevator pitch dark and no cell phone signal. The elevator refused to budge.

She yelled for help but it was in vein as nobody was there and the basement is not used as a parking space. She somehow managed to open the door slightly and shouted for help while coaxing the crying baby from time to time.

The pair did not get freed until 5 pm when a neighbor came back. The man said he could not believe his eyes when he found pieces of vegetables in the elevator.

In our final story, mountain road sees huge traffic jam.
