Gambler's winnings held at customs

A Korean man won 13 million HK dollars gambling in Macao, but seven million was held when he tried to carry it all as cash through customs, reported Southern Metropolis Daily on Wednesday.

The custom staff noticed the Korean man, who carried a black backpack while passing through customs. The bag looked quite heavy and the staff required him to put the bag through the X-ray machine. After that, they inspected the contents of the bag and found 70 tiles of cash with the face value of 1,000 HK dollars each, worth seven million HK dollars in all.

The man claimed it was part of his winnings from gambling at the local casinos which he planned to put into the bank. He said he didn't know it would cause trouble when he transported the large sum without declaring it in advance.
