Rooftop vegetable garden annoys residents

A rooftop vegetable garden may be a lovely idea, but some local residents are raising a stink over its smell. Residents in Changsha, Hunan province have complained about such a garden in their estate, red.net reported on Monday.

"At first someone planted vegetables on top of my house, and now there are four households who are planting them here," said Mr Chen, who lives in the building.

According to Chen, his neighbors began planting vegetables on the roof in 2004.

He has complained to the neighbor who grows the vegetables many times but to no avail. The most unbearable thing about the garden is the use of fecal sewage to fertilize the plants, which leads to bad smells.

Another resident surnamed Xie said he had no choice but to move to live with his mother-in-law, since the water used for planting has penetrated the walls of his house.

According to the report, the property management of the building is looking into the matter.
