Shanghai native Chen Yiming, born in 1951, studied overseas and cooperated with the Hammer Galleries in New York for more than 15 years. Most of his paintings feature the qipao and Chinese beauty in a soft, demure and old-fashioned style.

Numerous works by Chen have been sold at auction and are collected by buyers from Japan, Canada, America, Mexico and Europe, not to mention China. The qipao in Chen’s paintings are exquisite and highly praised by the Dean of New York Academy of Art, Peter Drake. Chen’s works are described as ‘combining western painting skills and oriental culture’.

Let’s take a look at some of his paintings featuring qipao beauties that have gone under the hammer.
