BEIJING - A man suspected of killing a baby girl stood trial on Monday.
The case involving Han Lei, who was charged with the murder of a 2-year-old girl after a dispute with the child's mother over car parking in Beijing's Daxing district on July 23, was heard Monday morning at the Beijing No 1 Intermediate People's Court.
The high-profile case aroused the public's attention and let them in great rage. By 9 am, hundreds of journalists had come to the courtroom.
Han, 39, was arrested after he was suspected of lifting the girl over his head and throwing her to the ground.
Han fled the scene but was captured the next day.
The girl was severely injured and died days later despite treatment.
Han's companion, Li Ming, was charged in the case. He is accused of sheltering Han following the incident and trying to conceal a crime.
The two suspects are being tried on Monday at the same time.
