A Taiwan man claims he was attacked by three mainland travelers after criticizing them for spitting at a scenic spot last week.

Chen Li-lun, 28, of Taipei told local police that he was beaten after he tried to stop several mainland tourists at Ali Mountain from spitting on Sept 9, the Apple Daily reported.

Chen claimed he was attacked in the head, chest and back, and some travelers threw stones at him.

Wang Lei, 26, head of the traveler group, was also injured. Wang told the police that the travelers did not spit or throw any waste.

Wang said that Chen cursed at the tourists because they were singing songs, and Chen's provocation led to the physical conflict, according to the report.
