43 dead, 60 rescued in shipwreck off Kamchatka peninsula

MOSCOW - At least 43 died in a shipwreck off Russia's Kamchatka peninsula, TASS news agency reported Thursday.
The Russian freezer trawler "Dalniy Vostok" has sunk in the Sea of Okhotsk off the Kamchatka Peninsula. Rescuing work is still underway and more than 60 were rescued.
According to preliminary data, 78 of the ship's crew members are Russians while 54 are foreigners. Dalniy Vostok is assigned to the port of Nevelsk and belongs to a company called "Magellan".
The ship sunk in about 15 minutes after its engine compartment had been flooded.
