China-US security dialogue

China and the US began their inaugural Diplomatic and Security Dialogue (D&SD) at the State Department in Washington on Wednesday morning. US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis are hosting Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi and General Fang Fenghui, chief of the People's Liberation Army's Joint Staff Department, along with members of the US delegation and their Chinese colleagues for the D&SD.

The China-US D&SD was established under the broader framework of the Comprehensive Dialogue mechanism that came out of US President Donald Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping in April in Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Chen Weihua/China Daily
