CPPCC holds closing meeting in Beijing

The first session of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) began the closing meeting of its annual session Tuesday.

Yu Zhengsheng, chairman of the CPPCC National Committee, presided over the closing meeting held at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing. Hu Jintao, Xi Jinping, Wu Bangguo, Wen Jiabao, Jia Qinglin, Li Keqiang, Zhang Dejiang, Liu Yunshan, Wang Qishan and Zhang Gaoli were present.

At the annual session of China's top political advisory body, which opened on March 3, national political advisors approved the work report of the Standing Committee of the CPPCC, a report regarding CPPCC's proposals and attended the first session of the 12th National People's Congress as non-voting delegates, where they heard and discussed Premier Wen Jiabao's government work report.

CPPCC members also elected the top advisory body's new leadership, which include the chairman, vice-chairpersons, secretary-general and Standing Committee members.

Yu was elected at the fourth plenary meeting of the first session of the 12th CPPCC National Committee on March 11. Twenty-three people were elected vice-chairpersons.
