Construction material industry likely to soar in Vietnam

HANOI  -- Vietnam's building material production is likely to soar, with the outputs of cement, paving bricks, sanitary ware, and construction glass doubled or tripled by 2020, local newspaper Vietnam Economic Times reported Tuesday.

Vietnam is likely to churn out 50.6-55.6 million tons of cement in 2010, 79.7-87.6 million tons in 2015 and 101.7-111.8 million tons in 2020, the newspaper quoted the prediction of the country's Construction Ministry as saying.

Vietnam will also make 8-10 million sanitary ware products in 2010, 12-14 million in 2015 and 19-23 million in 2020. The respective estimated figures for construction glass output are 88- 96 million square meters, 131-140 million and 196-202 million.

The country has stepped up technological development to produce more high-quality and environmentally-friendly building materials which are now available in over 100 countries and regions, the newspaper said.
