NAZRAN, Russia  -- Officials in the southern Russian republic of Ingushetia say at least two officers have been killed by a car bomb that exploded outside the regional police headquarters.

The Wednesday morning blast took place in the parking lot of the headquarters of Ingushetia's Interior Ministry. Ministry and emergency officials variously gave the death toll at two or three officers, with at least three others seriously wounded.

Ingushetia is plagued by violence, much of it directed against police, that is widely seen as an offshoot of the separatist insurgency in neighboring Chechnya.
